Use in the forest

28.11.2025

In keeping with its commitment to the environment, our French-speaking Swiss trading company Leuba Hiag planted 400 seedlings as part of the ‘My Tree’ campaign. The corresponding certificates were distributed to customers in December 2024.

This year, the planting took place in the canton of Valais, more precisely in the Fécon forest on the heights of Morgins. The campaign in this forest came at just the right time, as logging in the area had made reforestation necessary.

Local and committed cooperation

We were welcomed on site by the forestry service of the municipality of Troistorrents, headed by forester Hilaire Dubosson. His team accompanied us with professionalism and passion, especially André, a second-year apprentice lumberjack, and Max, head of the lumberjack team, who shared their knowledge with us during the planting.

In changeable but ideal weather, the fog quickly gave way to sunshine, providing perfect conditions for working on the damp and slippery slopes of the site. All participants tackled the task with enthusiasm.

Different tree species in the service of sustainability

English oak, sycamore maple, silver fir, Douglas fir, beech, rowan and spruce: the trees planted reflect the richness and diversity of our Swiss forests. These tree species contribute to the ecological resilience and biodiversity of the forest.

The Troistorrents Forestry Service, a key player in the region

Mr Dubosson's forestry service manages a vast area of 1,600 hectares of publicly owned forest and 250 hectares of privately owned forest. It is also responsible for 1,200 hectares belonging to the municipality of Monthey and maintains numerous hiking trails.

His team consists of three apprentices spread over three years of training, ten temporary employees and seven permanent employees. It has top-notch expertise, particularly in the management of steep terrain using cable cranes.

Short transport routes and local energy

Every year, 6,500 m³ of wood is processed into wood chips to supply district heating to Morgins, a power plant jointly operated by Romande Énergie and the municipality of Troistorrents. The logs from the felling operations are also used locally, in particular by the Premand sawmill in Troistorrents and the Despond sawmill in Bulle – a fine example of short transport routes and sustainable resource utilisation.

A big thank you

We would like to express our sincere thanks to Mr Hilaire Dubosson and his team for their warm welcome and support during this day full of exchanges and new insights.

A big thank you also goes to our team, including Agron Citaku, office manager in Monthey and Farvagny-le-Petit, and Mélanie Bellon, sales consultant in Farvagny-le-Petit, as well as her parents for the wonderfully organised aperitif that rounded off this lovely day.
