With the Robo 26 project, we are embarking on a new phase of technological development at the Machining and Cutting Centre (BUZ). Installation and assembly work on a new, high-performance cutting system has been underway since mid-May. Commissioning is scheduled for August 2026.
Robo 26 is far more than just the installation of a new machine: the system is a key component in strengthening the range of services within our ecosystem and an important step towards ensuring the future viability of the Machining and Cutting Centre (BUZ). The evaluation and design of Robo 26 were carried out in close collaboration with our long-standing partner Homag Schweiz AG. Based on existing requirements and future market needs, we jointly developed a system concept that is optimally tailored to the Machining and Cutting Centre (BUZ).
What is Robo 26 – and what makes the system so special?
Robo 26 represents the latest generation of cutting technology and brings a significantly higher level of automation to our production facility. The aim is to enable stable processes of consistent quality with high precision – whilst increasing flexibility and productivity.
The system concept comprises several core components:
- A two-storey sheet storage system for automatic stock management and the safe handling of individual sheets. Frequently required half-size items are directly and quickly available.
- A highly flexible, fully automated panel cutting saw, designed for cutting down to batch size 1. The targeted use of robotics enables an efficient, material-friendly and largely automated panel flow.
- A panel cutting saw in hybrid mode, which can be operated both autonomously in fully automated robotic mode and manually as a conventional cutting saw.
With this equipment, we are responding specifically to current and future market requirements: increasing volumes, high quality standards, short lead times and the ability to produce even the smallest batch sizes economically. Robo 26 provides the technological basis for this.
Technology and people – successful together
Despite the higher degree of automation, people remain a key factor for success. Robo 26 is operated by trained staff from production, engineering and AVOR. New requirements are emerging, particularly in the areas of plant monitoring, process analysis and technical support.
Robo 26 is therefore also a development project for skills, roles and collaboration. The targeted development of expertise helps to further develop modern and attractive jobs within the Machining and Cutting Centre (BUZ). For day-to-day operations, this does not mean any abrupt changes, but rather the gradual introduction of new processes and tasks. It also enables the production company to gain its first experience in the field of robotics.
A forward-looking project
Robo 26 is deliberately designed as a long-term investment. The system provides a stable foundation for future requirements and leaves room for further developments and adaptations. It strengthens the technical basis of the Machining and Cutting Centre (BUZ) and supports the strategic direction of the entire organisation.
Over the coming months, the project will gradually become a reality – from the ongoing installation and initial test runs through to full-scale operation. As the first foundations are laid in Hall 8, one of the most important projects of recent years is getting underway for us. We will be reporting on further progress on an ongoing basis over the coming months.
