Small house - really big

14.04.2026

The exciting construction process of a tiny house can be seen in an SRF TV series. Our entire ecosystem of trade, production and logistics was involved in the construction of the house with the Novatop building system.

Claudia Raemy is the mother of two daughters and wants to simplify her life. Her detached house? Far too big. Who has time for the whole household? She prefers to spend her free time with her children. True to the motto: "More people, less stuff", she sold her house - and decluttered her entire life.

She had a new tiny house built, a single-family home in a compact format. The complete construction process of her new modular building is part of the SRF documentary "Tiny Houses - Dream or Hype?".

The Kuratle Group was allowed to participate in the construction of their new home. Our entire ecosystem with complete solutions from a single source was used. It was built with the Novatop construction system. Kuratle & Jaecker in Bern organised Novatop Solid with a thickness of 84 mm for the exterior walls and Novatop Element for the roof. The advantage was the high flexibility, the fast processing and the pleasant living climate that can be achieved with Novatop.

Meier Logistik delivered the Tiny House to the site in Luterbach SO on a swap-body platform. HTA Mittelland took care of the carpentry.

Fabricator Meyer Innenausbau

The regional fabricator Meyer Innenausbau was responsible for the project planning, design, construction supervision and all work with wood. The initial discussions were held with Adrian Schneuwly, Sales Consultant Field Service North-West.

The order for an entire house was a first for Meyer Innenausbau, as the company's main tasks tend to lie in remodelling and interior construction.

"Modular construction cannot be compared with traditional house construction," explains Managing Director Hans Ulrich Meyer, who was also responsible for the architecture of Claudia Raemy's house. "It requires a great deal of planning and coordination." However, the simple prefabricated construction of Novatop's convincing system construction method meant that the preparation could be kept to a minimum.

"I chose Novatop for the timber construction because it is simple and practical. The aim was to generate as much added value as possible," says Hans Ulrich Meyer. "With Novatop, I was able to carry out the façade construction myself on site." What's more, the sanded insides of the timber elements are already finished - another advantage for fabricators.

Known from radio and television

Due to the TV programme, interest in the construction site was unusually high. There were frequent onlookers and the construction progress was observed with interest. "There was always something going on at the construction site," laughs Hans Ulrich Meyer, "whether it was children or a few helping hands - we always had some music in our ears."

Modular construction in a quiet location

Tiny houses enrich timber construction. Small forms of living could become a trend, the building area is smaller, energy can be saved and the dream of owning your own home is within reach with the comparatively affordable mini house.

Claudia Raemy is currently realising this dream thanks to the Novatop construction system - and in spring, the homeowner can look forward to something special: the terrace will be installed to coincide with the outdoor season.
