Anyone who visits a print shop ...

...has a lot to discover: In mid-December 2025, Max Alegra "Maxie" Carlos visited the Weibel Druck AG print shop in Windisch with her vocational trainer Marek Cizmar, polygrapher in Marketing at Kuratle & Jaecker.

"As a polygrapher, it's important to know how printing machines work, which printing process is best suited to a particular product and how to prepare print data correctly," explains Maxie. As most polygraphers work in a print shop, this knowledge is part of everyday working life for many. Conversely, Maxie sometimes found printing topics difficult at school as she works in an office. "So this visit was all the more helpful for me."

Machines wherever you look

The print shop was very different to her usual working environment in Leibstadt. "It was much louder, machines were running everywhere," says Maxie, impressed. Managing Director and owner Matthias Weibel took her on a tour of the print shop. Weibel Druck AG is a family business - "and you could tell from the friendly atmosphere," says Maxie.

Matthias Weibel first showed us around the large production hall. There, our polygraph apprentice was able to admire the cutting machines and digital and offset printing machines. Her personal highlight: the embossing machine. "It is used to emboss foils onto a product so that texts or symbols are emphasised with a glossy finish - simply beautiful!"

In another room, there were smaller printing machines for digital printing for smaller print runs or for personalised products. Offset printing, on the other hand, Maxie now knows, is used for larger print runs. It is characterised by high and consistent print quality.

From the factory floor to the office: meeting with polygraphers

The tour continued in the office area of the print shop. There Maxie met her professional colleagues: the polygraphers at Weibel Druck AG. They showed her how they prepare print data and check that everything is set up correctly before printing starts.

On her return, Maxie was delighted: "The visit was very exciting. I can now understand a lot of things better and combine my knowledge from school even more with practice."
