You have been working at Meier Logistik for ten years now. What makes the company special for you - and what do you particularly appreciate about your work here?
Originally, I wanted to work as a chauffeur - referred by a friend who was already working here. Instead, I was initially offered a position in the warehouse, as additional support was needed there.
So I started in the warehouse and gradually grew within the company. I particularly appreciate the genuine family atmosphere. The line managers are present - you can raise problems or concerns directly, not only with your direct line manager, but also with the Kuratle family. They take their time, listen and support you.
The company is also clearly structured and the management is very present. Particularly in challenging phases, such as the changeover to the warehouse management system (WMS), the line managers were active on the shop floor and helped out themselves. That is hugely motivating.
Another big plus point is the personal development. I started as an order picker and progressed step by step to team leader. Being trusted and given responsibility means a lot to me.
In addition to work, you enjoy spending time with your family. You have dogs together from the same litter - what breed are they?
They are small poodles. My siblings already had dogs from the same litter a year or two before, as we know the breeder personally.
When the bitch later had another litter, we were asked if we were interested. My sister and my cousin took dogs and in the end there was one left. I had a look at him and he came running straight towards me - love at first sight. Since then, this little family pack has brought us even closer together.
Another balance for you is the cinema. Which film genres do you particularly enjoy watching - and why?
Yes, I'm a big film fan. I'm not really a series person, so I enjoy going to the cinema. The last film I saw was Avatar. I particularly like science fiction, but also action-packed films and the occasional light comedy.
You are currently very busy with the interior fit-out of an apartment block. What do you find particularly exciting about this project? Are you doing a lot of the work yourself or are you getting help?
I bought an existing house that was in great need of renovation. Five years ago, I renovated the main flat, converted the loft and have now added a two-storey extension of 80m2. I mainly do everything myself.
I do minor electrical work such as installing sockets or laying cables myself. For more complex issues such as the fuse box, I call in the experts.
Many people in my family are talented craftsmen, which has taught me a lot. Today, YouTube also helps with details and AI also provides support. For me, this is an important balance to work: I can plan at home, work with my hands and see directly what is being created.
Where does your craftsmanship come from?
I originally come from a design background. I trained in retail, specialising in window dressing and merchandising. I later decorated events, built backdrops and helped design trade fairs - including for Rivella.
This creative and practical work simply suits me. I usually do my planning pragmatically with a rough sketch or idea in my head. A lot happens during the process.
Of course, there are also technical requirements, such as when installing a Swedish stove or fire safety regulations. You have to know exactly what materials can be used, what distances need to be maintained and how to insulate. That makes it exciting - a perfect balance for me to create something with my own hands after work.
You've been a team leader for almost seven years. What is particularly important to you when dealing with your employees? How would you describe your management style?
I already have experience in coordinating tasks from my previous job. My management style is collegial and friendly, but always with clear structures. I value open co-operation and want my team to be able to work independently. At the same time, there are clear expectations: The work should get done, daily closings must be right. Ultimately, we work together to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Of course, there are employees who interpret this collegial approach too loosely. In such cases, I give clear tasks or instructions to ensure that everything runs according to plan.
I try to be very present for my team. It's important to me that everyone does their work well, but that their free time and privacy are also respected. All in all, I would describe my style as open, collegial and goal-orientated. I think you should set an example of what you expect. Sometimes you have to invest more time in an employee to show them something - it varies from person to person.
You were able to attend many courses at the Kuratle Academy. What did you learn from them for your day-to-day management work?
I attended management workshops, first aid courses, a workshop on absence management and many other courses. The company's mission statement, which is consistently exemplified, was particularly valuable for me.
The workshops motivate you to live by these guidelines and pass this knowledge on to your own employees. The workshop on absence management was particularly helpful: how do I deal with employees who are often off sick and how do I remain objective and correct? I had never learnt this before.
