Nadine, you originally trained as a florist and later switched to online cutting. How did you decide to make this switch and what made you do it?

I originally trained as a florist, but quickly realised that the career prospects in this field were rather difficult. That's why I decided to retrain as an industrial clerk.

After my retraining, I was able to gain my first professional experience in a haulage company and then joined the Group via Meier Logistik in 2011. In 2019, I was then offered the opportunity to switch to the online cutting department at the Processing and Cutting Centre (BUZ) - I now work in AVOR Cutting.

Nadine organises the online editing at her desk.

What are your daily tasks in your role in AVOR?

I process the orders that come in from the back office and prepare them so that they are ready for production. This includes the complete order processing up to machine release, office organisation and post-calculations.

You mentioned that sewing is a great passion of yours. How long have you been sewing - and what excites you about it?

I started sewing during the Corona period. I got my mum's sewing machine back then and was looking for a creative balance to my everyday office life.

Today, I sew around 90% of my children's clothes and most of my own wardrobe. I really enjoy designing my own clothes - especially because I can choose high-quality fabrics and therefore determine the quality myself. I also like to take on commissions and sew for others.

You are also active in sample sewing and design sewing. What does this involve?

In sample sewing, pattern designers develop new patterns and look for people to test the patterns in different sizes. In return for my subsequent feedback, I receive the pattern free of charge.

In design sewing, fabric retailers provide you with free fabrics that you can sew. In return, I make my photos available for advertising purposes.

As well as sewing, you are also active in the "Seifesüder" guggenmusik band. What role do you play there?

I've been involved since 2009, but in the last few years I've been more of a temp, as it didn't always fit in with the children. Since this year, my husband and I have been sharing the commitment and taking turns, which works very well. I play the trombone.

You were even on the board there. What tasks did you take on?

I was on the board and responsible for organising the masks and costumes. This meant that I coordinated the planning and realisation of all the costumes.

If you could choose to live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I have to say, I really like living in Switzerland, but I would like to travel more. I used to travel a lot, including to Hawaii. One destination that particularly appeals to me is Thailand.

A life for the Gugge - from an early age.

You are also involved in the Lower Aare Valley Holiday Pass. What exactly do you do there?

The holiday pass is an organisation that offers various courses and activities for children during the spring holidays - from sports and arts and crafts to excursions and sightseeing. I am responsible for organising individual courses and for administrative tasks. I also supervise the emergency aid courses within the programme.

An ear and an eye for the little ones: Nadine doing children's make-up.

You made children's tattoos at our anniversary party. Is that also a hobby of yours?

I organised it as part of the Guggenmusik. We've already done it at a previous anniversary. I taught myself how to do it - we work with airbrushes, which we also use at the carnival.

You juggle your job, family, sewing and club life. How do you manage to juggle everything?

Time management is the be-all and end-all. A good structure helps enormously. It's not always easy, but I plan a lot of things in advance and consistently pencil in appointments. And the rest is then organised flexibly in between.
